Martyr Arch, 2014
A 13 ft tall interactive sculptural replication of a popular wedding card trope of two swans kissing to form a heart shape with their necks. These swans appear as vulture-hybrids. Viewers are invited to pose for couples photos on the platform. The floor has cut-away hatches and the swan heads are attached to an obscured curtain-rod gantry. Pillowcase hoods and a set of bedsheets tied with slipknot nooses at either end are located behind the posing subjects. This piece was made for the exhibit, "Merger": a two-person show with Elizabeth Alexander which critiques the corporate exploitation of weddings amongst other things.
