Hurtling
Inspired by telescopic images of asteroid belts and microscopic views of environmental particulates, I’ve used peripheral fragments of my Earthly environment to form a stage-set of airborne masses with unknowable consequences.
Elements are made from Styrofoam packaging, screen, house paint, disassembled artificial flowers, cocktail swords and umbrellas, household sponges, air-dried clay, and other mixed media. Objects range from 1 - 30 inches and hang at various heights and distance from the wall.
Pictured as installed at Jamestown Art Center, RI on a wall alongside an ascending stairway and a descending ramp was viewable from underneath, alongside, and above.
